"The House on Mango Street" Clouds

In the vignettes entitled, "Darius and the Clouds," and "And Some More," Esperanza and her friends spend a lot of time analyzing things in nature like the clouds. Use the following links to learn more about the children's observations of clouds as cumulus. The links will tell you how clouds are classified. When you are finished viewing, create a picture of clouds using cotton balls. Then, write a paragraph using figurative language to explain what your cloud is and the type of cloud it could be classified as. (Darius said the cloud he saw was God)

After you create your artwork and paragraph.

  • Type your paragraph on this post.
  • Take a picture of your artwork and upload it to "My Drive."
  • Turn on the sharing link to your picture and paste as a link in your post.
  • Read and respond to your classmates.

  1. My cloud is a rabbit. That cloud is classified as a cumulus type. This cloud looks like whipped cream on cake. It’s nice and fluffy like a pillow. My rabbit is white like snow in Christmas. I like rabbits because they are sweet and cute.

    1. Moises, thank you for helping the class in posting our pictures. Your "tech savvy" and creativity was something we all learned from. Thank you for creating a paragraph with figurative language and expressing what you think about when you look at the rainy sky.

    1. Aneta, I love your creativity. Your paragraph contains many similes; a large part of figurative language. (Remember a simile is when you compare two things using like or as). Great job completing the task and posting your picture.

    1. Adan, thank you for posting your work to share with us. Your innovation shined through. I like when you said the bear is "friendly like you" in your class presentation. This is a simile (like you) and an example of figurative language.
